Numerous research projects are carried out at the Chair of Mechanics - Continuum Mechanics in cooperation with partners from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, other universities and non-university institutions. These research partners are not only from the engineering field, but also from other disciplines such as mathematics, medicine, biology, material sciences and informatics. We are always open to new collaborative partners from university and non-university institutions as well as from industry to conduct mechanics-related or interdisciplinary research.

Students who are interested in a master thesis in the field of computational mechanics are invited to contact us. Graduate students interested in obtaining a doctorate in this field can also realize their project at our chair. For the financial support during the PhD-period there are different possibilities:

• Temporary employment as a research assistant after a successful application for an advertised position
• Own financing through a self-acquired third-party fund or a scholarship
• A scholarship that can be applied for by the interested applicant.

Postdocs can also find a stimulating environment and suitable infrastructure for their projects in the broad field of computational mechanics in order to enhance their qualification. The funding of the post-doctoral phase can be acquired through third-party funds or through applying to corresponding scholarships.

Basically, the Chair of Mechanics - Continuum Mechanics offers assistance in acquiring suitable funding, for example in the selection of an appropriate topic or a scholarship program, as well as in the preparation of a research proposal and application for the acquisition of a scholarship.
